NYC Mayor calls for ride-sharing to be 100% electric by 2030 / Minnesota lawmakers propose EV charging bill

1. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is calling for high-volume ridesharing services to fully transition to zero-emission vehicles by 2030. Uber and Lyft shared positive statements about the proposed requirement.

Q: In 2021, California also decided to require ridesharing services to be fully electric by 2030. What do you think about the timeline? Share your thoughts on Inside.com.

2. Lawmakers in Minnesota are considering legislation that would create a $2,500 tax rebate for EVs. The proposal would also let utilities install and operate charging stations.

3. Budget airline Ryanair expects to maintain profitability in the current fiscal year, with an outlook between €1.32B to €1.42B ($1.43B to $1.54B). CEO Michael O’Leary says the airline is seeing record sales for the summer, driven by U.S. tourists taking advantage of the favorable exchange rates and improved demand from Asia. 

Q: Ryanair is projecting 168 million passengers for the fiscal year. Do you think travel demand will remain high throughout the economic downturn? Share your thoughts.

4. Nissan and Hitachi plan to develop a system for powering elevators during outages with EV batteries. Ford and Renault are also testing their vehicle-to-grid capabilities for power outages.

5. EV subscription startup Onto raised £100M (~$124M) in a round led by investment group CDPQ and asset management company Pollen Street. Onto has a fleet of 7,000 vehicles in the U.K. and plans to use the funds to acquire more EVs.

6. Omega Seiki Mobility plans to invest $98.1M in two manufacturing plants for EV components in India. U.S.-based lithium-ion cells producer iM3NY is joining Omega on the project.

7. Volkswagen revealed it has over 15,000 electric vehicle chargers globally. The automaker seeks to install 45,000 fast charging stations by 2025 through its joint ventures with BP and Electrify America, among others.
