1 | The Transportation Security Administration is estimating 17.7 million passengers will pass through security checkpoints between June 29 and July 5. The projected day with the highest amount of passengers is June 30, with 2.82 million. More: - In 2022, the July 4 weekend experienced over 10,000 flight cancellations and delays amid staffing shortages at the Air Traffic Control and various airlines.
- "With the new pay implementation plan for all TSA employees starting in July, attrition levels at TSA have dropped to historic lows, which means our increased employee retention has resulted in sufficient staffing levels to meet the increased passenger demand throughout the country," said TSA Administrator David Pekoske.
- The record for the most single-day passenger volume occurred on June 16 of this year, with 2.8 million people.

2 | What the numbers say: According to a projection by market research firm TrendForce, Chinese brands are expected to comprise 9% of "New Energy" vehicles (including PHEVs and fuel-cell) sales in Europe in 2023, up by 6% YoY. Relevance: Chinese EV brand expansion in Europe is taking place while Tesla leads SUV EV sales within the country, having sold 31,054 Model Y units in May, ahead of BYD and Aion. The local EV manufacturing sector has also gone from 500 companies in 2019 to approximately 100 due to increased competition and the consolidation of bigger players such as BYD. Brands that should care: Volkswagen, which recently slowed down production for the ID.4 and delayed the launch of the ID.7, and mid-table EV sellers including Peugeot, Fiat, Dacia, Skoda, Hyundai, and Renault. | | |

4 | The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a lobbying group representing automakers, plans to submit comments to the Environmental Protection Agency against a proposed maximum of carbon dioxide emissions of 82 grams per mile starting with the vehicle model year 2032. The group includes support from General Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Hyundai. More: - The Alliance for Automotive Innovation is calling the proposal a "de facto battery electric vehicle mandate."
- The lobbying group says the proposal does not align with the Biden Administration's goal set in August 2021 of 50% of vehicles by 2030 being electric or plug-in hybrids.
- "EPA's standards cannot be met without substantially increasing the cost of all vehicles, reducing consumer choice and disadvantaging major portions of the U.S. population and territory," said the group.
