1 | Podchaser, the intelligence engine for podcasting, today unveiled Predictive Demographics, a predictive language modeling capability that will give advertisers a better look at the audiences of podcasts. It will use AI, instead of first-party data, to analyze the language in the podcast to predict the target audience, a first in the industry. More: - Podchaser, an Acast subsidiary, will be able to predict the gender of the show's audience as well.
- In recent years, marketers have begun using first-party data to figure out the target audience for shows.
- But a recent study by Nielsen showed that more than half of brands say they are "below average," "average," or "average at best" at using first-party data.
- Predictive Demographics will give demographics and data for over 5 million podcasts worldwide. The predictive language modeling will be able to determine audiences in moments.
- "What this means, in short, is more comprehensive targeting for advertisers than ever before and smart, deep demographic coverage for our database of more than 5 million podcasts," said Bradley Davis, CEO at Podchaser. "We're making it possible for advertisers to unlock value from podcasts through an audience-first approach and to ultimately discover podcasts with untapped advertising potential. This, in turn, helps more podcasters generate more revenue — a win for all."

2 | What the data says: CNN 5 Cosas took a tumble in the Latin America Podcast Ranker, dropping from the 2 spot to the 6 spot over a one-month span. Multiple shows, including O Assunto, Mais Recentes, Repórter CBN, and Modus Operandi, climbed up to take over the 2 through 5 spots. Panda Show — Sin Censura had the biggest rise in the Top 10, jumping from 9 to 7. Relevance: Triton Digital released its Latin American Podcast Ranker for August. LOS40 MX — La Corneta, the popular comedy podcast, remained in the top spot for the fifth straight month. Boletim Folha stayed at No. 8 in the rankings while the rest of the Top 10 shifted. It should be noted that CNN 5 Cosas, the Spanish version, and CNN 5 Things, the English version, are both on the list, as the English version jumped three spots to 48. More info: It will be interesting to see if more English-speaking podcasts will begin to climb up the rankings in upcoming months since Spotify has announced that it will use AI to translate shows into different languages. | | |

3 | Cumulus Media and Westwood One Audio Active Group released a study about why AM/FM radio is a great place to promote podcasts. The study showed that a majority of podcast listeners also listen to AM/FM radio. More: - The study took Edison Research's Infinite Dial Study and noted that of the weekly AM/FM audience, 77% have ever listened to a podcast, and 45% listen to podcasts weekly.
- The share of ad-supported audio time spent amongst podcast consumers ranks podcast listening at 53% and then AM/FM radio at 37%.
- The greater time spent with AM/FM radio, the greater awareness there was of podcast titles, the study found. It noted that those who listen to AM/FM radio more frequently were more likely to notice podcast ads while they listened.
- The more the listener listened to radio, the more likely they were to remember the names of podcast titles from specific ads.
