| 1 | | The latest version of Go, 1.22, primarily focuses on updates to the toolchain, runtime, and libraries. The release comes six months after Go 1.21, which added new functions, min and max, and clear to the language. More: - Go 1.22 introduces two new changes to "for" loops, with variables now being created new in each iteration to avoid accidental sharing bugs and allows "for" loops to range over integers.
- Commands in workspaces now have the ability to utilize a vendor directory created by the go work vendor containing the dependencies of the workspace.
- Updates to the core library include new math/rand/v2 and go/version packages, enhanced routing patterns, and several minor changes to the library.
- According to the Go Developer Survey 2023 H2 results, developers are building API/RPC services (74%), a runnable/interactive program (62%), libraries or frameworks (44%), and websites/web services (42%).

| 2 | | According to Tommy Mysk and Open Web Advocacy, the second beta of 17.4 includes restrictions to progressive web apps in the EU. The release contains alterations to comply with the recent policy changes announced in the EU. More: - In the second beta, PWAs are open in the default browser instead of launching them in their own top-level window, affecting their user experience and functionality.
- When a user taps on a web app icon in the EU, they will receive a message asking users to choose between opening it in Safari or canceling it and mentioning that subsequent opens will occur in the default browser.
- The changes are expected to lead to local data loss in existing web apps and impact notifications.
- Mysk published a video highlighting the new changes.

| 3 | | The Rust Foundation Executive Director and CEO, Rebecca Rumbul, said the Rust ecosystem needs more maintainers and contributors. In a recent interview with DevClass at the State of Open Con, Rumbul emphasized that the ecosystem needed people with a more diverse set of skills like project management. More: - The foundation is focusing on advocacy and offering fellowships for individuals interested in becoming maintainers to address the shortage.
- Further, the foundation has joined Google Summer of Code for the first time to attract people.
- One roadblock the foundation faces is mentoring new people, as it adds to the workload of existing team members.
- Rumbul said the foundation will use the $1M grant from Google, announced last week, to set up and fund a team that will work on improving Rust interoperability with C++ code.
