| 2 | | The new automatic install of the recommended components feature in the Visual Studio installer has sparked a backlash from developers. Microsoft released the first preview of Visual Studio 17.10 with recommended components along with other features to improve productivity, debudding and diagnostics capabilities, etc. More: - According to the announcement post, Visual Studio will now automatically install recommended components during updates to enhance the software development experience.
- Contrary to the announcement, the feature, which is enabled by default, appears in the latest version and earlier versions of Visual Studio as well, leading to confusion among developers.
- One developer commented the move was a mistake and it looked like a marketing stunt to get new components installed.
- Developers are concerned that the feature could cause a potential bloat of Visual Studio with unwanted features, break a configured developer setup, or introduce security risks.
